Coping with cancer. People have to approach this issue in their own ways, but all who have endured this process seem to agree that doing things that might help to distract from the pain and discomfort is essential.
In 2008, when Medina resident Ruth Crane was undergoing chemo for breast cancer, she knew she wanted to help other women going through cancer. “I realized that wearing jewelry, specifically earrings, makes the transition to wigs and scarves so much easier. It was important for me to feel “normal” at a time when life was anything but normal, and wearing earrings helped me tremendously. I hoped that earrings would help other women in treatment, too.”
The 39-year-old Crane’s motivation for starting the project was simple enough. “I wanted women undergoing chemo to feel good about their appearance, be able to be distracted from the chemo treatment for a few minutes while they select a pair of earrings, and feel good that someone cares about what they are going through.”
